The Bar Association exam
The bar exam is a rigorous test of legal knowledge and skills. It is designed to ensure that lawyers have the necessary knowledge and skills to practice law competently. The bar exam is a challenging exam for many reasons, including:
- The sheer volume of material that you need to learn. The bar exam covers a wide range of legal topics, and you need to have a deep understanding of each topic in order to pass.
- The time pressure. The bar exam is a long exam, and you need to be able to think critically and write quickly in order to answer all of the questions.
- The stress. The bar exam is a high-stakes exam, and the pressure can be overwhelming for some people.
Furthermore, applicants must first obtain a bachelor’s degree in law from an accredited university. The program must be at least four years in length and cover a wide range of legal subjects. After graduation, applicants must pass the bar exam, which is administered by the Iranian Bar Association. Only a certain number of applicants are admitted to the bar each year.
Once admitted to the bar, lawyers must complete a two-year internship with a practicing lawyer. The internship is designed to give lawyers practical experience in the legal profession. After completing the internship, lawyers can register with the Iranian Bar Association and begin practicing law.
Lawyers in Iran play an important role in society. They provide legal advice and representation to individuals and businesses. They also play a role in upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of citizens.

Brief summary of the steps
Here are some additional details about each step:
- Obtaining a bachelor’s degree in law: There are many universities in Iran that offer bachelor’s degrees in law. The most prestigious universities are located in Tehran, but there are also good law schools in other cities, such as Mashhad, Isfahan, and Shiraz.
- Passing the bar exam: The bar exam is a one-day multiple-choice exam that tests the legal knowledge and reasoning skills of the applicants.
- Completing a two-year internship: The internship is a great way to gain practical experience in the legal profession. The applicants will work with a practicing lawyer and learn about the different aspects of legal practice.
- Registering with the Iranian Bar Association: Once you have passed the bar exam and completed your internship, you have to take the Ekhtebar exam, which is ideally easier than the past exams and held on separate days, if passed, you can register with the Iranian Bar Association and become a licensed lawyer. This will allow you to practice law in Iran.
Notably, only Iranian citizens can become Bar members. Being a Muslim is not a requirement and all the constitutionally accepted religions .i.e Judaism, Christianity, and Zoroastrianism would meet the requirements.
